Snowboarding Adventures

Bend is a skiers or snowboarders dream.  I unfortunately am not the world’s best skier, and my snowboard career ended day one with a fierce blow to the head prior to the days when helmets were a thing.  I did know that living in Bend and being 30 minutes away from an amazing Mountain meant my kids were not going to follow in my footsteps.  So I had them choose between snowboarding and skiing and we hit the mountain.  They of coarse choose snowboarding because, who wouldn’t after watching Rubble and Everest (from Paw Patrol) hit the slopes with ease.   We signed the boys up for the mighty riders program that Mt. Bachelor offers, we just did the 3 Saturday class and both boys got to be in the same class.  I was actually surprised watching them that they were able to get up on the board and ride down a bit of the mountain.  They looked much more skilled than I ever did on a board, but that really isn’t saying much.  I am not sure how much they actually learned as they said their favorite part was eating lunch in the warming hut and that their instructor bought them French fries every class but that’s ok, the got up after each fall and that is a start.  Some cool things we learned if you didn’t already know is Mt. Bachelor has a free chair lift for kids and adults called the Carrousel Chair, you need to get a lift ticket at the Sunrise Lodge to ride it and it is not as fun as the others but great for practicing with your kids, they also have kids ski free days if you buy your adult tickets ahead of time online.  We are hoping to take advantage of the free lift this year so we will update you with how that goes, we will also practice at the park because hey, the boys aren’t Shaun White yet and don’t need an entire mountain.  Maybe someday.
